I think it would stem from when Spring is in Israel, is it during the Western hemispheres Winter? Also, for many Westerners we come from European descents thus St.Nick' s kind spirit toward children comes to play. It is a holiday of love and warm spirit that is to be shared and enjoyed. In fact, it's a well known fact that wedding rings are pagan in origin. As are wedding ceremonies. But JWs don't have anything against wedding rings or wedding ceremonies, right? The JW church is new, and not from the time of Jesus no matter how hard you try and fudge the records or try and show you were there through hints and suggestions. Clearly when examining the new testament and the early church you come to one church. The Catholic Church.
Jesus speaking to his disciples and specifically to Peter: Matthew 16:18-19 [18] And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.
Later speaking not to a crowd or to all of the believers / followers, but to his disciples alone in one room: Matthew 28:18-20 [18] And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. [19] Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.
[18] All power: See here the warrant and commission of the apostles and their successors, the bishops and pastors of Christ's church. He received from his Father all power in heaven and in earth: and in virtue of this power, he sends them (even as his Father sent him, St. John 20. 21) to teach and disciple, not one, but all nations; and instruct them in all truths: and that he may assist them effectually in the execution of this commission, he promises to be with them, not for three or four hundred years only, but all days, even to the consummation of the world. How then could the Catholic Church ever go astray; having always with her pastors, as is here promised, Christ himself, who is the way, the truth, and the life. St. John 14.

What makes you think that God is so powerless to defend His church that He needed to start a new one? (The JW contradicts thousands of years of God's word and guidance, something God does NOT do since he's unchanging.) If you seek the truth you'll come to see His church is still here, His one, holy, catholic (universal) and apostolic church is and has always been the Catholic church of the Eastern AND Western rites.Aquelan Knighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15604949127557904837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8319525241110721507.post-50438106801903071832013-12-06T15:33:45.262-06:002013-12-06T15:33:45.262-06:00Your billion hours of public preaching is a drop i...Your billion hours of public preaching is a drop in the bucket compared to the public preaching of the Catholic church. The Catholic church has door to door preaching, missionaries in every country even the United States, also preaching and teaching in every form of media and that's all done globally, in all major languages and even in the local languages. You have 7.8 million members, the Catholic church has 1.28 billion members and growing. Even if only .006 Catholics were practicing Catholics, that'd equal all JWs globally.
Your statement about knowing enough teachings of Catholicism is either a lie or a admission of poor scholarship. I'll leave you to decide. One of the central doctrines of the Catholic church is the Trinity. Notice central as in a main point. I'm going to use an argument by Jim Blackburn to explain the difference between person and being.
"God is one Being (the one and only divine Being). This divine Being exists as three Persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). This is unusual to us because each human being is only one person and it might seem that every being has to be one person: one being = one person.
But that’s simply not always the case. For example, a dog is a being but is not a person. A tree is a being but is not a person. In these cases, one being = zero persons. On the other hand, an angel is a being and is a person. In their case, angelic beings are similar to human beings: one being = one person.
Once you recognize that not every being is always exactly one person, it might be easier to grasp God’s unique reality, the Trinity: one Being = three Persons."
Now that we see one being can be three persons let's try and explain this in a physical way you might find practical. Imagine God is a blanket, and you folded the blanket into three parts. It's three parts and one blanket. OR maybe he's like a clover with three petals which make one clover leaf. Each part is different, but they make the same whole.
If God is as HE says, HE is all powerful, HE can be as many as he'd like, but HE chose to be ONE being, THREE persons.Aquelan Knighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15604949127557904837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8319525241110721507.post-52207889125546564592013-12-06T15:00:59.570-06:002013-12-06T15:00:59.570-06:00Maybe the JW doctrine is a little more substantial...Maybe the JW doctrine is a little more substantial and solid or maybe it's like the man building his house upon the earth and not on a foundation of rock. Luke [48] He is like to a man building a house, who digged deep, and laid the foundation upon a rock. And when a flood came, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and it could not shake it; for it was founded on a rock. [49] But he that heareth, and doth not, is like to a man building his house upon the earth without a foundation: against which the stream beat vehemently, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.

Let's find out shall we? These are taken from the JW Watch Tower Society from their very own definitive publication of their doctrine. This is by far NOT a complete list but only a sample.
"To worship Christ in any form cannot be wrong ... " (WT, 3-1880, 83). "It is unscriptural for worshippers of the living and true God to render worship to the Son of God, Jesus Christ" (WT, 11-1-1964, 671).

The men of Sodom will be resurrected (WT, 7-1879, 7-8). The men of Sodom will be resurrected (Live Forever, early ed., 179). The men of Sodom will not be resurrected (Live Forever, later ed., 179). The men of Sodom will be resurrected (Insight on the Scriptures, Vol. 2, 985). The men of Sodom will not be resurrected (Revelation: Its Grand Climax at Hand! 273).

"There could be nothing against our consciences in going into the army" (WT, 4-15-1903, 120). Due to conscience, Jehovah’s Witnesses must refuse military service (WT, 2-1-1951, 73).

"We may as well join in with the civilized world in celebrating the grand event [Christmas] . . . Satan the devil" (WT, 12-15-1983, 7).

"Everyone in America should take pleasure in displaying the American flag" (WT Reprints, 5-15-1917, 6068). The flag is "an idolatrous symbol" (Awake!, 9-8-71, 14).

Seems to me these are shifting sands going whichever way the wind pleases. Fascinating.
Since you view the Catholic faith as the measure of comparison we shall utilize the church for this argument. The actual bible properly translated was actually compiled by Catholics for the Catholic church, by Catholics (New Testament), approved by Catholics, and preserved by Catholics. Did you know that the Catholic church means the Universal Church? So in a nut shell you're using a corrupted version (New World Translation) of OUR Bible! Now why would we have created the Bible you might ask? Simple, for the intended purpose of doing what we do with the Bible, and that is teach with the Bible. If you didn't see Catholics using a bible you didn't try looking very hard at all. (Or were you picking on the people who call themselves Catholic but don't practice? Not a fair fight shooting at an unarmed person. Bad form JW!)
Proof, evidence, true and accurate reasoning? Hmmm... I think I might have shot a few holes in your argument in my other posts already and that wasn't even an opening argument. Your teachings do not stand on proof, evidence, or truth since they are regularly refuted when a person looks deeper into the matter. The Catholic Church you speak against has numerous well thought through arguments that show all the faults of the JW teachings. I'm a bit saddened that you feel you know Catholicism so well but have missed all the arguments against the JW.
I think you have more a hate for the Church than a love for the truth otherwise you'd have been honest and looked into the truth.
Matthew 24:14 is not a valid argument pro JW, the Catholic church has been everywhere your people have been and more. Catholicism is broadcast in all forms of media, with practicing Catholics preaching the word of God in all lands using the Bible with proof, evidence, truth and accurate reasoning backed by 2000 years of discernment and solid argumentation.Aquelan Knighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15604949127557904837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8319525241110721507.post-63002969522307889612013-12-06T13:38:43.990-06:002013-12-06T13:38:43.990-06:00Psalms 37:29 [29] But the just shall inherit the l...Psalms 37:29 [29] But the just shall inherit the land, and shall dwell therein for evermore.
This line in context is actually stating an inheritance of the promised land as a sign of God's blessing in the Old Testament. Please read Hebrews 11:8-16 &38-40 where these passages speak of a better homeland than earth and is meant for those whom die in faith.
There is a city in these passages and that city "hath foundations; whose builder and maker is God." Please note the New World Translation footnote should still note (unless changed for convenience) that the city mentioned in these passages is the heavenly Jerusalem from 12:22 and Rev 21:2.
If you need further proof of departure from this land unto the heavenly lands please read 2 Corinthians 5:1; Hebrews 3:1; Ephesians 2:6; Colossians 1:4-5; 1 Peter 1:4
In case the JW friends try and talk about some people go to heaven while others don't, try asking about the 144,000 whom are part of the heavenly class, and how the patriarchs from Matthew 8:11-12 according to Jesus are reclining at the table in the kingdom of heaven with ABRAHAM, ISAAC and JACOB. I ask this since the JWs teach: "The apostle Paul in the eleventh chapter of Hebrews names a long list of faithful men who died before the crucifixion of the Lord. . . . These can never be a part of the heavenly class" (Millions Now Living, p. 89) Unless we have a wibbly wobbily timey wimey thing going on here those guys are from the OT... AKA before the crucifixion. Hell, for example, is taught to be a place of eternal torment in the catholic faith, yet the bible clearly states that in Eccleciastes 9:5 "the dead are concious of nothing at all" Verse 10 also states they have no memories, thoughts, or wages, from what I can recall. How can the dead suffer if there is no conciousness after death? Here is another example: Catholics believe that the good people who die go to heaven, yet Psalms 37:29 clearly states that "the righteouss themselves will possess the earth and reside FOREVER upon it." Jehovah's Witnesses use the bible when they teach along with, proof, evidence, true and accurate reasoning, and PROVEN PROPHECIES. For example, one prophecy that is soon to be fullfilled is Matthew 24:14 "This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations and then the end will come." Jehovah's Witnesses are preaching an average of over a BILLION hours door to door and in public about the Good News warning people of the end. This is no accident or coincidence. A few verses later shows how Jesus cannot be God himself, which is what catholics believe. But it states no one knows the time of the end. For you no neither the day, nor the hour. Not even the son knows, but only the father who is in the heavens knows. How can Jesus be God if God knows something Jesus doesn't???Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8319525241110721507.post-55027955807203802432013-02-19T19:26:16.674-06:002013-02-19T19:26:16.674-06:00Dear Catholic-Studying-to-be-a-JW: I fear you are...Dear Catholic-Studying-to-be-a-JW: I fear you are leaving a faith you don't know! I would have to now agree completely with Jehovah's Witnesses. I never thought I would but research and studying the bible both helped me to conclude this.

I am now studying to be a JW. I go to their meetings and enjoy every bit of it. Even when I use to get angry at what and why they believed certain things I could never prove them absolutely wrong. I stuck by my beliefs for years before I gave them up to agree with Jehovah's Witnesses.

Also, recently I noticed how many ex-catholics there were in a Kingdom Hall and I laughed! So many ex-catholics! and not just the Kingdom Hall I attended and not all ex-catholics but also ex-other religions. A LOT OF THEM. Even ones who were super strict catholics all their lives!....That should say something! =)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8319525241110721507.post-8215656555374420542013-02-19T17:03:58.857-06:002013-02-19T17:03:58.857-06:00ummm there are plenty of reasons in the bible besi...ummm there are plenty of reasons in the bible besides what happend on those two birthday's mention that give plenty of indication that birthdays would be wrong to celebrate. Do some research on birthdays and where they originate from. It's actually pretty simple. God commanded we stay away from every sort of unclean thing. To have "Nothing" to do with it. So, I can agree with the Jehovah's Witnesses for not celebrating birthdays or Holidays. It's not like what they are doing is evil. They just want to be thorough in the worship of God.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8319525241110721507.post-48105670797390336842012-12-22T08:19:57.016-06:002012-12-22T08:19:57.016-06:00I just want to say something about the celebration...I just want to say something about the celebrations of birthdays. First of all, I believe JWs are bordering on fear and superstition when they say that they don't celebrate birthdays because something bad might happen. They are missing the point of celebrating a birthday completely! Us Catholics believe that the human person is the clearest reflection/image of the unseen God. When we were born our bodies themselves revealed the living God. As we grow we can choose to reveal/reflect more and more the image and likeness of God. On our birthdays the focus should be on renewing our thanksgiving to God for the body and our life given to us as opportunities to love Him, worship Him, and serve Him--to acknowledge that He made us and to give that gift back to him. Good Catholics raise their children to view their birthdays in this way. If a person is selfish on their birthdays then it is because they were not taught correct Catholic theology.
