30 second Apologetics: How to respond when asked, "Where is this Catholic teaching in the Bible?"

1 comment:

  1. Incidentally, the papacy and purgatory ARE in the Bible (although not explicitly). The third, as proposed by Catholic apologist Steve Ray, is not.

Sometimes a non-Catholic Christian may say, in answer to Ray's question: 2 Timothy 3: 16 says that "All Scripture is inspired by God".

That is true. All Scripture IS inspired by God, but that is NOT a verse which supports the view that everything we believe has to be found in the Bible.

It simply means that if it's in the Bible, we have to believe it, since it comes from God.

Suffice it to say the belief that everything we profess about our faith has to be found explicitly in the Bible is...ironically...a man-made tradition.

Someone heard his preacher say it, who heard another preacher say it, who heard another preacher say it...but no one ever read, "Everything we believe has Christians has to be found in the Bible!" in a single page of Scripture
